Tips for Gals: Pots and Pans

Thing I Notice: Pots and Pans

My Pet Peeves: My guy won't stop nagging me about his precious pots and pans.  It's always, you can't cook this in that pan!  Don't put that in this pot! Why can't I just grab the nearest pot OR pan that's somewhat clean and use that?  Or at least not completely filthy dirty?  And don't get me started on non-stick surfaces!  What difference does it make?

Tips for Gals: I learned about pots and pans by Googling "pots and pans".  That may even be how you found this post.  Let me make it quick and dirty for you:

A Google search for "define: pot" yielded the result:
pot
pät/
noun

    1.
a container, typically rounded or cylindrical and of ceramic ware or metal, used for storage or cooking.
"clay pots for keeping water cool in summer"
synonyms:    cooking utensil, pan, saucepan, casserole, stewpot, stockpot, kettle
    2.
any of various containers made for a particular purpose.
    "a yogurt pot"

A Google search for "define: pan" yielded the result:
pan
pan/
noun

    1.
a container made of metal and used for cooking food in.
synonyms:    saucepan, skillet, frying pan, pot, wok
    2.
    informal
    a person's face.

Trust me, sister-woman, this is one battle you can't win.  You know how guys are: nag, nag, nag until you just can't take it any more.  You'll give in sooner or later, so for the sake of harmony in your household, just make it sooner.

But what's the real difference between a pot and a pan, anyway?  Guess what -- there isn't one.  You just have to pretend there is.  Use Google images for pots, then use Google images for pans.  Study them carefully.  When you buy pots and pans, get them separately, hopefully in labeled boxes, then study the pots and pans and the boxes they come in until you can fake it convincingly.

A tip about non-stick surfaces: Cast-iron pots and pans and skillets are usually non-non-stick, so if it's too heavy to lift, you're probably safe.  If you have any doubt whether a pot or a pan is sticky or non-, though, just put a little liquid detergent in the bottom, fill it with water, and "let it soak" for a while.  A long while.  After a few days you should find that he magically cleaned it himself.  And even if he's disappointed that you couldn't really tell the difference, he should at least be grateful that you didn't destroy his non-stick pot.  Or pan.  Unless it was non-non-stick, in which case he should still be glad that you cared enough to do nothing.

A pot tends to be deeper and a pan tends to be more shallower, or vice-versa (who can remember?!) Big whoop, right?
